These stitch markers/counters have a jump ring that can be opened and closed with a charm attached. They are not as suited for repetitive opening as the leverback style are better as closed rings, however can still be opened by hand if needed. When opening the ring, twist the ends apart rather than pulling each end directly apart to each side to make a gap as the ring will keep its shape and last longer.
